The Discipleship Training School (DTS) is your opportunity to try on a life with God, perhaps like never before. It contains five months of intense, rewarding and fun experiences – three months of theoretical training and two months of outreach.
Not only do you study the word of God, but also discover how to transform it to something real in your life. You learn how to listen to the voice of God, and to let Him change your heart.
The DTS is you opportunity to seek God face to face, and to know the joy of having intimacy with the Creator.
During the DTS everything revolves around the TRANSFORMATION – knowing God, learning how to hear His voice and sensing His direction in your life.
The DTS is one of the basic courses in the University of the Nations and is registered as IDS 701/702.
The best part is that you can continue on to the next level: To stay and involve yourself with missions, participate in projects and recieve the training that will help you influence all the areas of society.
Everything happens in an environment that holds fellowship, safety and compassion. Every student have a mentor which helps them on their way. We learn how to work as a team, and during the weeks of practice, we expand the Kingdom of God with creativity, passion and audacity.
The DTS is like a door to the beginning of missions, The Discipleship Training School.
Now you get to know more about what Toledo has to offer.
SETTLE YOUR MOTIVATIONS
An important question you need to ask yourself is: Why do I want to do the DTS?
Do not think that running away from your problems is the reason.
The problems should be confronted head on.
A relationship that is faltering or hurting, an academic failure, unemployment, a crisis in your christian community or in your family, or whatever fatality or adversity in life, should not be your reasons to serve in missions.
Mistaken motives transform right decisions to disastrous decisions.
SETTLE YOUR PREREQUISITES
To do the DTS you should be older than 18 years old, complete the application form and be recommended by your church and your pastor. You can complete the form online. Here is the link to the web site.
DEFINE YOUR PURPOSE: Long term or the mission experience?
We believe that every christian is a missionary, and that he or she should be a missionary where he or she is. Whether you are a teacher, programmer, artist, stylist, engineer or whichever, you should be a missionary where you are.
You can have an initial experience of long term missions, and then afterwards go back to your studies, profession, and so on. There is nothing wrong in doing this, because not all of us have the calling to be in a mission ministry, however, the ones who has this calling, knows they do.
It is important that you define this for yourself, and for the people closest to you. That way you prevent false expectations like “... He said he wanted to be a missionary but now he has returned...”. In prayer, seek to know Gods plan for you, and share only what is well defined.
If you have doubts, you should say so. It is important to make things clear.
During the school you will surely recieve answers and have more clarity in you decisions.
ESTABLISH A BOND WITH THE CHURCH
If you have been in the church for years but never “?”, in other words, you have never involved yourself in the service, you cannot expect that they immediatly believe in your calling. This is also the case if you are new in the community. It is natural that they need to see this calling in your life first.
Involve yourself with the church, with the ministries and they will know that you are serious with the word God has given you.
For how long will I be involved in missions? What are the goals for the next ten years?
These goals should be established during prayer. Be realistic and loyal in the established.
DEFINE THE TYPE OF TRAINING YOU WANT
The DTS has the same curriculum in every YWAM-base in the world, nevertheless, what changes is the specific approach, for example: Urban Missions, Communication, the Arts (music, dance, etc.), Intercession, Family, Impact, Mercy Ministries, and others. Choose the one that is the most adequate for your necessity and calling.
ESTABLISH A NETWORK
Even though many believe so, finances is not the main reason for people to quit the mission field. Relationships are the main reason. If you establish a good circle of relationships, everything will work out better, and you will have less difficulties continue your projects in missions.
This circle of relationships can be formed by relatives, friends, churches and others. Transparancy and commitment are essential to keep us informed periodicly.
On your walk in missions, many will bless you. Usually those who support you financially are those who intercede and pray for you.
GET SUPPORT FROM YOUR CHURCH AND PASTOR
Try getting involved in missions on your own is usually not the best option. Patiently get the support of your church and pastor to bless you for either a short-term project or long-term missions.
GET THE SUPPORT OF YOUR PARENTS/FAMILY
This is an important and painful issue for many. Going to the mission field without the consent of your parents is disobedience. Since it is the family that ensures stability, they should be the ones to more respect and accept your decision.
Something is wrong if the people closest to you(Your family) does not respect you. After the Father (God), one of my priorities should be my family. Be patient and with perseverance seek its blessing.
PLAN YOUR BUDGET
Beforehand it is important to know the costs you have ahead. It includes health expenses, transportation, education and basic needs. It is important to have the necessary finances before leaving for the mission field. You can share about your needs with others close to you and believe that God will supply for all your needs. It is not only the missionary who will live by faith, also the righteous shall live by faith.
As YWAM Toledo, our main identity is worship and intercession (as you may have already read earlier in the section, “who are we?”).
Therefore our school will be focused in this direction and we will adopt music as one of our practical approaches in this first school.
Registration must be made in advance to arrange your coming. First you must submit the application form. And once your application has been accepted, you must pay a registration fee. Then we will send you the confidential reference forms.
The cost of the school is three thousand euros (3000). Which can also be paid monthly. Upon arrival of the school you must pay the first payment and at the beginning of the last month of the school (theorical phase) must be paid the last installment.
The above amount covers the costs of the course (teaching materials, accommodation, meals and trips planned by the school).
Extra expenses like processed documents, travel tickets from your place of origin to Toledo (Round trip) are NOT included. As well as books requested during school. The registration fee is 50 euros and is non refundable. In case the student decides to leave the school, he/she is free of charge. If you have already paid for the entire course, then you shall be reimbursed for the months you have not completed.
The DTS school is an internal school. The school will be run by the missionaries Eliel Santos and Rosi Carvalho together with a special team and other volunteers.
“A PRIORI” WE ARE PLANNING TO GO ON OUTREACH (TWO MONTHS) TO:
